The Jacksonville Jaguars will likely look at some wide receiver options this offseason. With the rumors of Zay Jones potentially being cut to save cap space, the Jaguars may need to replace him as well as Calvin Ridley, and fans have known that. So, as fans do, they have all had their eyes on a few names, but two in particular.
There's Mike Evans, who some fans want, and some don't because of his age. However, in terms of the age part, let me just start by saying that he is only 16 months older than Ridley. Evans is an elite wide receiver and is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' best receiver of all time, and it isn't close. There is a reason he has had ten years with 1,000 receiving yards. He has never had a season where he had less than 1,000 yards.
But he likely will want a ton of money, so I understand why the Jaguars fan base doesn't want to pay him. The other guy is Tee Higgins, who is on the Cincinnati Bengals. Fans really want him, mainly because of how young he is, and he would fit perfectly next to Christian Kirk.
However, that dream may have just been shot down. Now, after recent news, it appears he won't be a free agent until at least next year and maybe even longer.
According to NFL Network's NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cincinnati Bengals have informed Higgins that they are indeed franchise-tagging him, which means he will play under a set value, which this year happens to be $21.8 million.
So, not this year for the Jaguars, but certainly, it could still be a possibility next year.
