Let's just say that the weekend ended up being a good one for the Jacksonville Jaguars backup quarterback C.J. Beathard. Sure, he was already having a good weekend because he gets paid to be the backup quarterback.

But then the Jaguars decided to make life a whole lot better.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Jaguars are giving C.J. Beathard a two-year deal for $4.5 million with incentives up to $1 million each year.

That's one heck of a deal for a guy who could possibly not start a single game. Beathard has been with the Jaguars for the last two seasons and didn't start a single game in both of those seasons. In his two seasons in Jacksonville, Beathard played a total of 34 offensive snaps, including 27 this last season.

Starting quarterback and Jaguars star Trevor Lawrence has yet to miss a game in his career so it's hard to imagine Beathard starting any time soon. But, that doesn't take away from how important backup quarterbacks are.

Just look at the Kansas City Chiefs when Patrick Mahomes rolled his ankle against the Jaguars in the playoffs. Sure, Chad Henne didn't come in and do anything crazy, but he did lead them on a key 98-yard touchdown drive, which just shows how important the position is.

Lawrence is already starting to emerge as one of the better quarterbacks in the league, and if he ever goes down, you would want a guy who's been in the offense for a full season now, to run it.

Hopefully, we don't have to see him too much though. Not because we don't like him, but that would mean something went wrong.
