The Jacksonville Jaguars are having a ton of success this year. If they beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football, they will be 9-3 for the first time since 2005. A huge part of their success has come on the defensive side of the ball, and especially the defensive line.
The Jaguar's defensive line is one of the better units in the league when it comes to pressuring the quarterback and stopping the run. They aren't perfect by any means, but they have gotten better as the season has gone on.
And, I hate to keep saying why, but a huge reason the defensive line is so good is because of the career year the Jaguars' best defensive player is having. Josh Allen isn't necessarily having a breakout year because he has been one of the best edge rushers, but in a way, he has taken his game to another level.
Allen is eclipsing the all-time sacks record for the Jaguars. It will take another season, but the career year he is having with 12 sacks already this season is special. He has done it by staying healthy and putting in the work.
But how does a guy who plays a physical position like him stay so healthy? Well, he has a remedy that you don't hear often.
"Onions, tell them about the onions," Calvin Ridley yelled in the background. "You smell like onions all the time."
Yes, you read that right. Allen's remedy for staying healthy is… onions.
"Hey, no, I don't. No, I don't," Allen laughed. "It's an old remedy. I get swelled up on my ankles. My doctor wraps my foot in onions and it really gets the swelling to go down. Real onions. Chopped up onions and salt. This is the first time I did it because of my foot. I needed something to keep the swelling down that's natural."
Well, it seems to be working. Allen is having an incredible year and even did some work against the Houston Texans on Sunday last week. I'd say don't stop using the onions, I don't care how much he starts to smell like them.
