The Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be loving life after having landed OT Anton Harrison in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. According to what has been revealed about draft night, Harrison was their guy even when they were on the clock at No. 24 overall.
But shortly before that, it was another tackle they were targeting to better protect Trevor Lawrence: Cincinnati Bengals OT Jonah Williams.
According to Cincinnati Enquirer's Kelsey Conway, the Jags had a "real interest in making a trade for Jonah."
According to Conway's report, it was the Bengals who decided not to move Williams at the end. Evidently, the unfinished trade could've changed the way the Jaguars' offseason has unfolded. While Williams is far from the perfect offensive tackle, he would've taken the urgent need off the Jags' hands prior to the Draft.
Jonah likely would've been forced to play RT in Jacksonville with Walker Little holding down the fort for expected-to-be-suspended Cam Robinson. Instead, it's Harrison who's expected to fill in for Jawaan Taylor.
In turn, that would've likely meant Anton Harrison winding up in Cincinnati with Joe Burrow and the Bengals.
The tackle out of Oklahoma was high on the Bengals' draft board, a source told A to Z Sports.
Ultimately, it was for the best. Harrison arrives at the NFL with much upside and if the Jags hit on the pick, they won't have to worry about the position for a long, long time.
