The Jacksonville Jaguars made quite the reveal on Monday. Ahead of their first preseason action, they gave everyone a bit of a hint on the tasks that will be given to rookie playmaker Travis Hunter.

Travis Hunter’s spots on Jaguars depth chart

On their first unofficial depth chart, Jacksonville has listed Travis Hunter on both sides of the football – as expected. That being said, we now know his role a tad bit better. Hunter is listed as a starting wide receiver on offense and a second-string cornerback on defense.

This was the expectation, but it is still incredibly intriguing to see in writing. This depth chart gives fans an inside look into how the Jaguars plan to deploy the two-way talent. Keep in mind – the Jags were bold and aggressive in their pursuit of Hunter. They traded up using their first-round pick from next year in order to secure Hunter’s talents.

Jacksonville is excited about Hunter’s upside, and his talents have been on full display at camp and practices. He’s making plays on both sides of the ball, and that’s exactly what the Jags were hoping for when they took him.

As far as production, it is interesting to project how Hunter will fare in year one. The Jags have a new offensive coaching staff. They no longer have tight end Evan Engram in the fold, who was a target machine a season ago for quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Brian Thomas Jr. still projects as the top receiver for their offense, but Hunter has plenty of opportunity to have a huge role as a rookie. Not to mention, the running game hasn’t found a ton of success in recent seasons for the Jags. They may rely a bit heavier on the passing game under Liam Coen and co.

Only time will tell. Regardless, Hunter is going to play a role on both sides of the gridiron for the Jags this season, and it is one of the storylines to watch on a weekly basis.
