The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are about to play in Super Bowl LIX, while the Jacksonville Jaguars are gathering their newest staff to hopefully try and get to where both of those teams are. And, it may not happen this upcoming year, or at all, but that's the goal. The Jaguars are likely going to be taking some notes from both teams, especially the Chiefs, who are trying to three-peat.
One thing to note that pretty much coincides with the Jaguars is how well the Chiefs' and Eagles' offensive lines have played. The Jaguars have let quarterback Trevor Lawrence get killed over the last few years. : last season was better, for sure, but the year before that was awful. And, still, Lawrence was pressured 80 times last year. So, yes, the offensive line could be better.
Watching teams like the Chiefs, you will see players do whatever they have to do if it means protecting Patrick Mahomes. Joe Thuney has played out of position for quite a few games now. He's an All-Pro offensive guard but has been playing left tackle, which he hadn't played since maybe his college days prior to this year.
Players on the Jaguars see what he's able to do and truly appreciate it.
What Joe Thuney has been able to do in the back half of the season, and continued to do in the postseason, is one of the most remarkable feats I have ever seen at the OL position. Truly incredible. – Jaguars center Mitch Morse
The Jaguars have certainly improved there, but let's be honest, they are not near the offensive line that these two teams are. These may be two of the best offensive lines in football, and if that means your best offensive lineman moves and plays out of position to win football games, that's what you do.
The Jaguars have so many other problems that need to be fixed before their offensive line, but watching these two teams should be a reminder that they can certainly be better. And man, Thuney is killing it.
