Although it's quiet this time of the year around the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars appeared on the transaction wire with a cut.

According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Jaguars released wide receiver Willie Johnson on Wednesday. The young wideout from Fort Myers, Florida was one of the team's signings out of rookie minicamp last year.

Described by Marshall's website as a "speedy pass catcher who saw action in eight games with seven starts," Johnson was a longshot to make the Jags' roster in 2022 but clearly caught the eye of the coaching staff by receiving a deal.

However, he was waived as part of the Jaguars' final roster cuts in August and eventually headed to IR with an "undisclosed injury." As such, he missed the entire season.

Unfortunately, injuries are affecting Johnson's career yet again.

Whether it's the same issue as last year's or not, the reason behind Wednesday's release is a failed physical, per Wilson's report.

Johnson almost had a return touchdown in the preseason against the Las Vegas Raiders. However, it was called back because of a flag. Now the Jaguars move on from the rookie who apparently impressed coaches last year.
