With the 24th overall pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be in an intriguing position in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. Clearly, the team needs help on defense. Yet the offense isn't polished either, particularly in the trenches.
In a recent mock draft by NFL.com's Chad Reuter, the Jaguars were linked to CB Deonte Banks. According to NFL Network's insider Cameron Wolfe, the selection fits what the Jaguars have indicated they'll be interested in.
"When I talked to Doug Pederson at the combine, I asked him what is a spot, maybe two spots that if you make a move there you're going to take this to the next level," Wolfe said on NFL Network on Friday. "First thing he mentioned was offensive line. The second thing he mentioned was cornerback."
The Jaguars already have Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams in the defensive backfield but adding somebody like Banks would make a lot of sense as he could be considered an upgrade at the position.
But Wolfe pointed out two other prospects that he believes will interest the Jaguars at 24th.
"But on the offensive line, just kind of looking at what Chad Reuter did (in his mock draft), there's a name available that I think would interest them if he was there at 24: Darnell Wright."
"The tackle from Tennessee, I think he ultimately went in the second round of Chad Reuter's mock draft but he could be a guy that can help the Jags immediately at left guard, right tackle and eventually could move to left tackle if they need it," added Wolfe.
He also mentioned the Jaguars could be interested in Florida's iOL O'Cyrus Torrence, who's also projected to go in the first round by many analysts.
That might not be the preferred option of many fans who desperately want a better pass defense or a flashier selection like say, a wide receiver or a tight end. However, success in the NFL starts up front.
Adding a starting offensive lineman like Wright, especially considering his versatility, would be quite the offseason gift for Trevor Lawrence.
