Jaguars' offseason decisions may be upsetting fans
The Jaguars may be doing something wrong.
The Jaguars' offseason decisions may be frustrating some of their fans, and who can blame them, honestly?
Last season was their best since 2017. That year, they faced the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship and were just a few plays away from playing in the Super Bowl.
This year wasn't that great, but man, it feels good to go from 1-15 two years ago, to 3-14 last year, to 9-8 this year with a playoff win under their belt. Not only did they get that win, but it happened in dramatic fashion over the Los Angeles Chargers.
You can see this team gradually getting better year after year. So next year was supposed to be the same, in terms of a playoff appearance, or even better. But, some fans may be getting upset now.
When you are expected to continue to get better year after year, fans also expect to see that in the moves they make during the offseason. For the Jaguars, they have done, almost nothing it feels like.
In fact, they have even lost some key players. Usually, when teams lose key players, they just replace those guys, but the Jaguars have yet to do that.
Jacksonville lost their starting right tackle Jawaan Taylor to the Kansas City Chiefs, and their key defensive lineman Arden Key to the Tennessee Titans, pun intended, and tight end Chris Manhertz is headed to Denver. Things like that happen, but the Jaguars haven't made a move to replace those guys.
As things currently stand on Sunday, March 19, this is everything that has happened to the Jaguars during free agency:
Staying with the team is Evan Engram (Tag), C.J. Beathard (2yr), JaMycal Hasty (2yr), Andrew Wingard (3yr), Tre Herndon (1yr), and Adam Gotsis (2yr).
Dan Arnold, Dawuane Smoot, Marvin Jones Jr., and Corey Peters are free agents we have yet to hear from as of Sunday.
There are still plenty of guys to go after in free agency that could make this team better. But, they already missed out on most of the big named players.
The most recent example of the issue at hand is free agent guard Isaac Seumalo, a huge part of the Eagles' dominant offensive line last season, agreeing to a three-year deal with the Steelers. He is a guy that a ton of Jaguars fans and media wanted the team to target.
The Jaguars need help in a ton of different areas, and frankly, the draft may not be able to fix them all right away. Sure, they can take a great cornerback in the first round, but who is to say that he or all of their other picks will hit, let alone produce in their first season?
If Jaguars fans are upset, and some of them are, they may have a reason to be. This team was ultra-aggressive last free agency, and we saw that in some of their signings such as Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and even Evan Engram.
I think we would all prefer they start making some moves pretty soon.
