The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to release one of their better defensive players from the 2022 season, and a Pro Bowler at that. This is the time of year when teams make some surprising cuts, and this one was sort of surprising.

Shaquill Griffin, a big named Pro Bowler, will now be a free agent.

The Jaguars feel comfortable with what they have in their secondary outside of Griffin, who was set to have a $17 million cap hit in 2023, per Spotrac.com. Tyson Campbell and Darius Williams played well at times in 2022.

Griffin signed in 2021, and if he does indeed end up getting cut, he will save about $13 million dollars for the cap. This was a big move that many didn't see coming, but, it makes so much sense.

Per Jordan Shultz, the move hasn't happened yet but is expected to happen. Shultz also said that Griffin will be one of the biggest names in the free agent market.
