After the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off three trade downs in the first two days of the 2023 NFL Draft, the franchise started Saturday with ten total picks from Rounds 4 through 7, including a whopping three fourth-round picks.
With the first of them, they made their first defensive pick of the year by picking LB Ventrell Miller out of Florida.
Below are the team's couple of fourth-round picks, having traded one of them away in exchange for a fourth-rounder next year, possibly a sign that the team didn't love the board at No. 127 overall.
- Round 4, No. 121 overall: LB Ventrell Miller, Florida
- Round 4, No. 130 overall: DL Tyler Lacy, Oklahoma State
Miller grew up in Lakeland, Florida, so the Jaguars are getting an in-state kid there. Multiple Draft analysts expected him to go a little bit later in Day 3, including The Athletic's Dane Brugler who projected him as a 6th-7th round prospect.
As such, one would have to assume the Jaguars' scouting department is very high on him. Why? The pick is a bit unexpected considering the team just drafted linebackers Chad Muma and Devin Lloyd last year. If anything, it was a head-scratcher for the Jags.
The team also added Tyler Lacy, a defensive lineman out of Oklahoma State that received three Honorable mentions for the All-Big 12 team during his career in college.
Even if the Miller pick and the additional trade back will be controversial, the Jaguars finally gave fans what they wanted in the fourth round: Some defensive reinforcements.
The Jaguars are scheduled to make the first pick of the fifth round after trading back from No. 127 overall.
