Jaguars re-sign veteran cornerback Tre Herndon in free agency
The Jacksonville Jaguars head into the weekend with one more move in the NFL free agency opening week.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have little cap space to work with and are coming off a year in which they spent a lot of cash. That's why it's important they nail every move they do make. Even if they're just about depth.
Especially at positions of need like cornerback. On Friday, the Jaguars re-signed veteran Tre Herndon to a one-year deal, per NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
Herndon played in 36% of the Jaguars' defensive snaps (3rd most) last year. He finished the season with 36 tackles and five pass defenses. He also forced one fumble in 2022.
The veteran player has been with the Jaguars since joining the NFL in 2018. The former undrafted free agent has proven himself and is now up to 67 games played and 30 starts.
He stays in a position group that includes Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams, among others.
The Jaguars are expected to focus on improving their pass defense after having one of the worst units in 2022. But at the very least, Herndon could be a solid depth piece in Jacksonville. Keeping him around on a one-year deal is a modest win.
