For the last few years, there has been a debate among Jacksonville Jaguars fans and Buffalo Bills fans. The debate has been about who has the better Josh Allen – the quarterback who has constantly lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs – or the defensive end who is getting better and better every year and just got a lucrative deal.
The discussion isn't fair because one is a quarterback, the most important position in all of sports, and the other plays a more expendable position. But it's okay, because you really can't have that debate anymore.
And really that's because the Jaguars' Josh Allen isn't Josh Allen anymore, if that makes sense. He and the Jaguars announced on Twitter, or X, that he has changed his name.
Allen will now be going by Joshua Hines-Allen, and, the reason why has a big, significant meaning.
"It's not a struggle to say this is what I want to do, this is what we're going to do," Hines-Allen started. "I decided to change my name to Joshua Hines-Allen, defensive end, Jacksonville Jaguars. I have always been a Hines, and you know, legacy is forever. Family is important to me because when you come from a rich history of athletic people in your family, and myself being the youngest one, to go to all my sister's games, to know what my uncles did in college, and in the NBA, it just means something a little bit more.
"It was almost destined for me to follow in their footsteps. It's going to be a surreal moment the first time I hear my name announced. My last name has changed, but I'm still the same person, and I'm going to continue to play like it and play even better. Once I get to the Pride of the Jaguars, it's going to say Joshua Hines-Allen. That's what I wanted, that's my legacy, and it's going to say that."
This is just one of the coolest stories from this offseason. Fans cannot wait to see Hines-Allen on Sundays.
