Travis Hunter is a generational player. Now, whether that translates over to the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars or not still remains to be seen. But, he certainly is showing traits at rookie minicamp that would indicate it should translate.
But, like general manager James Gladstone said, it's more than the football side of things. Yes, he can play the game on both sides of the ball at an extremely high level; he has the opportunity to change the way the game is played. However, he is also a great dude. Hunter is down-to-earth and just loves football, which is why they had to trade with the Cleveland Browns to go and get him.
“It was a blessing to be the first person in my family to walk across the stage. I was thinking of getting back to work and coming back and playing football," Hunter said regarding his graduation from Colorado this past weekend.
He makes it known that he loves football. And, believe it or not, not every player who gets drafted or every player who is in the NFL loves football. Some players just play it because they are good enough to and it pays a lot of money. Not Hunter, he loves the game.
But one of the traits that he has that hasn't been talked about enough is his leadership qualities. This past weekend was his first time doing anything in the NFL when the Jaguars started their rookie minicamp. And, regardless of being in the NFL for approximately 5 minutes, he's already becoming a leader.
“It’s definitely a blessing to be able to do that. I have to be authentic, I have to bring the energy up out here, make sure everyone is having fun with a smile on their face doing what we love," Hunter told reporters when asked if he's finding it easy to be himself at rookie minicamp.
I'm willing to bet that Hunter is the same exact way when the veterans join the rookies for camp. Now, sure, he will know his place as a rookie, but he's a natural-born leader, and you can see that not only in his game, but his personality, too.
