The Jacksonville Jaguars are moving into the thick of the offseason after having made thirteen draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. As you can imagine, that's set to shake up the roster.

So even though it's just May, it's time for us to take a way-too-early look at the 53-man roster and try to predict how it will look. It's not an easy exercise since 13 draft picks are just set to complicate things as even special teamers are on blast.

But here's the fun part: Every draft pick the Jags made over the weekend made my initial 53-man roster projection! So without any further ado, let's dive in.

Quarterback (2)

IN: Trevor Lawrence, C. J. Beathard
OUT: Nathan Rourke

The skinny: Trevor Lawrence is the reason why the Jaguars are in the best shape they've ever been. It all starts with him. That's all that matters here. Beathard is a solid backup and I don't see Rourke, who had foot surgery in January, winning that backup battle.

Running back (4)

IN: Tank Bigsby*, Travis Etienne, D'Ernest Johnson, Derek Parish* (FB)
OUT: JaMycal Hasty, Snoop Conner, Qadree Ollison

The skinny: This is an overhauled group in my way-too-early projection. Despite having 46 rush attempts in 2022, JaMycah Hasty gets the cut as free agent D'Ernest Johnson and third-round draft pick Tank Bigsby take over the backup duties behind Etienne. As for Parish, the Jaguars are listing him as a FB so I'll give him the nod here. Last year, the Jags started the season with only three running backs so don't rule that out either.

Wide receiver (5)

IN: Jamal Agnew, Zay Jones, Christian Kirk, Calvin Ridley, Parker Washington*
OUT: Kevin Austin Jr., Jaray Jenkins**, Tim Jones, Oliver Martin**, Jaylon Moore, Kendric Pryor, Seth Williams

The skinny: The Jaguars could carry more wideouts in 2023 but started last year with just five and we're sticking to that blueprint. That means, however, that sixth-round draft pick Parker Washington better be ready to bring it in special teams as Tim Jones was an important piece of the team's unit last season.

Tight end (4)

IN: Evan Engram, Luke Farrell, Gerrit Prince, Brenton Strange*
OUT: Leonard Taylor**

The skinny: I don't see the Jaguars going light here, especially after drafting second-round tight end Brenton Strange. Everyone knows Doug Pederson loves to have good tight ends and now he has a guy who can stay in line and block while Engram does his thing as more of a receiver-type TE. Versatility in this position will offer interesting match-up advantages.

Offensive line (9)

IN: Ben Bartch, Luke Fortner, Blake Hance, Anton Harrison*, Cooper Hodges*, Walker Little, Brandon Scherff, Tyler Shatley, Josh Wells

OUT: Cam Robinson (projected suspension), Chandler Brewer, Coy Cronk, Jimmy Murray, Cole Van Lanen, Darryl Williams

The skinny: Cam Robinson's upcoming suspension means he won't count toward the roster limit at first but expect him to be a part of the team when he comes back. The Jaguars have solid depth here. I see late-round draft pick Cooper Hodges being a surprise member of the initial 53.

Defensive line (6)

IN: Folorunso Fatukasi, Adam Gotsis, DaVon Hamilton, Roy Robertson-Harris, Tyler Lacy*, Raymond Vohasek*
OUT: Jayson Ademilola**, Michael Dogbe, Jeremiah Ledbetter, Henry Mondeaux, Nick Thurman

The skinny: This is a tough one as I'm cutting two free-agent signings by the Jaguars in Michael Dogbe and Henry Mondeaux. But they paid two of their guys (Hamilton and RHH) and drafted another two defensive linemen.

Outside linebacker (4)

IN: Josh Allen, K'Lavon Chaisson, De'Shaan Dixon, Travon Walker
OUT: D.J. Coleman**, Jordan Smith

The skinny: This is a misleading group. Rookie linebacker Yasir Abdullah is listed as an inside linebacker but could significantly contribute as a pass rusher for the Jaguars.

Inside linebacker (5)

IN: Yasir Abdullah*, Devin Lloyd, Ventrell Miller*, Chad Muma, Foyesade Oluokun
OUT: Elijah Cooks**, Dequan Jackson**, Caleb Johnson, Shaquille Quarterman

The skinny: I'm not really comfortable with the idea of cutting both Caleb Johnson and Shaquille Quarterman since they both led the team's special teams in snap counts last season but I don't see how else you get around this position without going short in other places of the roster. That's probably what happens when you draft four linebackers over the last couple of years. These young guys will have to pick up special teams plays fast.

Cornerback (6)

IN: Christian Braswell*, Tyson Campbell, Chris Claybrooks, Erick Hallett II*, Tre Herndon, Darious Williams

OUT: Montaric Brown, Tevaughn Campbell, Kaleb Hayes**, Gregory Junior, Divaad Wilson**

The skinny: One of the thinnest position groups on the Jaguars, for sure and it remains a major question mark for the team. The Jags finished last year as the 30th passing defense in the league per DVOA and didn't add much at cornerback. Every added rookie is either a late-round draft pick or UDFA. Tyson Campbell, however, is one of the fastest risers in the NFL.

Safety (5)

IN: Andre Cisco, Rayshawn Jenkins, Antonio Johnson*, Daniel Thomas, Andrew Wingard

OUT: Tyree Gillespie, Ayo Oyelola (International player), Deionte Thompson

The skinny: While the starting job probably belongs to Andre Cisco and Rayshawn Jenkins for now, chances are fifth-round pick Antonio Johnson is going to give them a run for their money. He could be considered the biggest steal of the Jaguars' draft class. Thomas has contributed a lot to special teams and I see him sticking around.

Special Teams (3)

IN: Logan Cooke P, Ross Matiscik LS, Riley Patterson K
OUT: James McCourt K

The skinny: Punter Logan Cooke might be the team's most underrated player as he makes a huge impact with his nail-in-the-coffin punts just about every week. Patterson found enough success in 2022 to stick around as the starter.
