The Jacksonville Jaguars have an important decision to make regarding who will be the franchise's next head coach.
They are well into their search, but it's been clear from the beginning who the top candidate on the fan base's mind is: Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
If you've been listening to the national media this past week, your hope for the Jaguars landing Johnson likely dwindled. With a popular rumor running wild that Johnson is now the favorite to be named the Las Vegas Raiders' next head coach. One NFL insider thinks people should pump the breaks.
Jordan Schultz believes the Jaguars are still in the running to land Ben Johnson as their head coach

Johnson has been a pivotal part of the Lions' incredible success over the past two seasons. His work with Jared Goff and the Lions offense has been viewed as the top head coaching candidate for the last two years.
Landing him would be a major win for the Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Given the personnel Johnson currently works with in Detroit, it would be exciting to see Jaguars players used in a similar way. In addition to Lawrence, this hire could lead to Travis Etienne, Brian Thomas Jr., and Evan Engram getting used to players such as Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta.
Johnson isn't eligible to be named a team's head coach until after the Lions' season ends. The longer the Jaguars hold out hiring, they risk losing out on other options. But Johnson and his offensive mind just might be worth risking it. Until we know more about the Jaguars and/or Johnson's decision, at least fans can go and watch the Lions' offense in the playoffs. and fantasize about that being the Jaguar's reality in the near future. Lions kick off their divisional round matchup against the Washington Commanders on Saturday, January 18, at 8:00 eastern time.
