Jaguars Report Card: Grading the surprises, standouts, and disappointments from the first third of the 2025 season
The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a unique position. In 2024, the Jaguars had just four wins. In 2025, they already have that through six games, and they aren’t looking to slow down, either, despite the loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a unique position. In 2024, the Jaguars had just four wins. In 2025, they already have that through six games, and they aren’t looking to slow down, either, despite the loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
We’re already one third of the way through the season, which means that “first six weeks,” as we called them in school, report cards are out.
Offensive superlatives
MVP: RB Travis Etienne
The Jacksonville Jaguars are definitely a team that succeeds more on offense when they have a lead because their run game is so strong. Etienne has been one of the best running backs in the league through the first six games, with almost 500 rushing yards and a few touchdowns, good enough for sixth in the league in rushing.
Glue guy: TE Brenton Strange (Before the injury)
Not only was he the team’s best receiving threat for a minute there while the Jaguars were trying to get their WRs going, but he’s also an incredible blocker. And, usually, tight ends who do all the dirty work are the glue guys, and in this case, Strange is.
Biggest surprise: RB Bhayshul Tuten
The Jaguars drafted Tuten as a backup running back, and he took over Tank Bigsby’s spot so much so that he got Bigsby traded. Plus, Tuten has been a good backup whenever Etienne needs it. Tuten has two touchdowns on the year and is rushing for four yards per carry.
Biggest disappointment: QB Trevor Lawrence
He has had his moments, some really good ones, like against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he has also had some really bad moments, and his numbers haven’t been quite what you’d think they would be under Liam Coen.
Then again, it’s still Week 7, so there is still plenty of time left for him to have an elite season.
Turning point of the last six weeks: Win against Chiefs on Monday Night Football
The Jaguars never won big-time games on primetime TV against the best teams — at least, not before that game. That changed the course of the early part of the season, where everyone was kind of put on notice.
Beating Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, the way they did, with the home crowd they had, showed everyone that Jacksonville is for real.
Overall Grade: C+

Defensive superlatives
MVP: LB Devin Lloyd
Any player who already has four interceptions has to be the team’s defensive MVP. Lloyd has been playing out of his mind, not only with four interceptions but also by returning one on Patrick Mahomes for a touchdown. A defense that wasn’t the best last year is turning teams over like crazy, becoming one of the top units in 2025, largely because of Lloyd.
Glue guy: S Andrew Wingard
He’s not a flashy player or one who makes the most highlight plays, but he gets the job done.
Wingard is in the top three in tackles on the team and consistently is around the ball. And, as we all know, he’s doing the dirty work.
Biggest surprise: S Eric Murray
The Jaguars signed Murray away from the Houston Texans this offseason in a move that had some people scratching their heads. However, Murray has been one of the best coverage guys on the team, with the second-best coverage grade among Jaguars’ secondary players, according to Pro Football Focus: 70.4, behind Jourdan Lewis’ 78.5.
Biggest disappointment: DB Jarrian Jones
We haven’t seen a ton from him, so this could always change, but so far, he hasn’t performed that great outside of some big-time plays here and there in the run game.
However, the bad is outweighing the good mightily. Jones was drafted in the third round last season, and it feels like several guys have passed him up.
Overall Grade: A
2025 draft class superlatives
Overachiever: OL Jonah Monheim
He’s only played 93 total snaps, but in those snaps, I thought he was pretty darn good outside of a few rookie mistakes here and there. Monheim was particularly good in the run game. Given that he hasn’t been given a ton of opportunities so far, he’s overachieved.
Rookie we need to see more from: LB Jack Kiser
Kiser, the Jaguars’ fourth-round pick and one of the best linebackers in that draft class, has played just 11 total snaps. In those snaps, while playing the run, he’s been great. It’s hard to get him on the field, though, when Devin Lloyd is playing as the best linebacker in football, and Foyesade Oluokun is a machine.
Underachiever: DB Caleb Ransaw
This one has nothing to do with play and everything to do with availability. The Jaguars’ third-round pick has yet to play a single snap in 2025.
Overall Grade: C
