Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow became the highest-paid player in NFL history on Thursday night when he signed a whopping five-year $275 million ($219 million guaranteed) contract extension with his team.

This marks the 4th time the quarterback market has been reset this offseason, as star signal callers all across the league got big paydays over the last few months.

Jalen Hurts got the ball rolling when he signed a five-year, $255 million contract with the Eagles. Lamar Jackson followed Hurts when he signed his five-year $260 million contract with the Ravens. Justin Herbert then signed a five-year, $262.5 million deal with the Chargers and now, Joe Burrow has blown all of those extensions out of the water with his five-year, $275 million deal.

With nearly every established franchise QB having signed a long-term deal with his respective team, all eyes now shift to the one QB who hasn't- Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence is entering his 3rd year in the NFL. After a shaky rookie season under dubious head coach Urban Meyer, Lawrence thrived in leading Doug Pederson's revamped Jaguars. He threw for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions last year, all while leading the Jags to the divisional round of the playoffs.

This is a huge year for Trevor Lawrence's contract implications. Last year, Lawrence showed sparks of elite quarterbacking. If he can carry the excellence that he displayed last season into this one, he'll have a lucrative extension of his own heading into the 2024 season.

Don't forget that in the last two seasons, Joe Burrow led his Bengals to the Super Bowl and the AFC Championship game.

If Trevor Lawrence wants a contract anywhere near Burrow's, he's gonna have to take the Jaguars a little farther than the divisional round.

Fortunately for Lawrence, he's throwing to Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram. Lawrence has all the weapons he needs to take the Jaguars far and earn himself a big incentive upon doing so.

Expect a big year from 16 this season.
