Everything is pointing upward for the Alabama Crimson Tide lately. Not only have they won seven straight games and ripped off a torrid streak of top 25 wins, but they also showed grit in their comeback win against South Carolina and watched LSU fire head coach Brian Kelly. Life doesn’t get much better heading into a bye week.
Boasting a top Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback Ty Simpson and an emerging star head coach in Kalen DeBoer are the cherries on top. In terms of this year, this is a team coming together as November arrives. It’s unquestionable that the two key leaders, DeBoer and Simpson, are on the same page, and they revealed as much in separate interviews.
Ty Simpson, Kalen DeBoer talk Alabama’s toughness in South Carolina win
While Alabama was happy to win against South Carolina, there was also a reflection to say they needed to be better moving forward. South Carolina was more efficient on offense in terms of yards per play, time of possession, and penalties committed. Most times, that’s enough to win any ball game, but Alabama prevailed.
Timely playmaking and finishing the full 60 minutes of the clock were the difference. Alabama locked in during the fourth quarter in particular, limiting South Carolina to 14 plays, forcing one punt, one fumble, allowing one touchdown, and then the final drive that ran out the clock.
Simpson started with the mindset of the Tide, saying, “It’s hard to win in the SEC, hard to win on the road. Just such a great, resilient win by the guys, man. Super proud of the team. Just kept fighting.”
DeBoer echoed those thoughts even though he surely hadn’t heard Simpson’s take. Here’s what DeBoer had to say in his post-game press conference.
“It ain’t gonna be pretty all the time… Our guys got fight. They certainly believe that sooner or later they’re gonna make a play.”
This is the right pace for the Crimson Tide. The level of grit, leadership, and on-field execution is at a night-and-day difference from Alabama’s 2024 season and 2025 opening loss to Florida State. This version of the Tide is incredibly dangerous at this moment, and the best could be yet to come.
