Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes thinks the New York Mets have a "good chance" to win the World Series in 2025 after the franchise made several huge offseason transactions.

Mahomes was asked about the Mets on Thursday during a media opportunity ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

"I think they'll have a good chance," said Mahomes. "They have a good team. They had a great year this last year. They get those guys back and then adding (Juan) Soto. I'm sure they'll have another chance to go out there and compete and win a championship. I'm excited for baseball this year. There's a lot of big moves happening. I hope my Royals can make a little case for themselves as well."

The Mets reached the NLCS last season after experiencing a disastrous start to the season. New York was eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the eventual World Series champs, in six games.

Mahomes, who is a minority stakeholder in the Kansas City Royals, is quite familiar with the Mets.

The two-time NFL MVP grew up playing baseball (he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft). Mahomes' dad, Pat Mahomes, pitched in the big leagues from 1992 to 2003.

Two years of Pat Mahomes' career was spent with the Mets, including the 2000 season which saw the first ever Subway Series between the Mets and the New York Yankees.

There's a famous photo of a young Patrick Mahomes shagging fly balls at Shea Stadium with LHP Mike Hampton before a World Series game.

“I just remember that Patrick got to fly balls quicker than I did,” said Hampton of that famous photo earlier this week (via Mets Insider). “He also got the balls back to the infield on one hop. Patrick just had some unbelievable arm strength for someone so young.”

The Mets are hoping to reach the World Series in 2025 for the first time since the 2015 season when, oddly enough, they lost in five games to the Royals.
