The Las Vegas Raiders were all about the person they were drafting rather than the player. Sure, getting a good player is the most important thing when drafting someone, but you don't want to draft someone who isn't a good person.

They made sure that every guy they drafted fit the person profile, as well as the player profile, that they wanted. The new regime has a certain culture they want on the Raiders, and it all starts with the players being good people. They got that in Ashton Jeanty, their new franchise guy on the offensive side of the ball, along with Brock Bowers and Geno Smith.

With Jeanty, you get a guy who is anchored in his faith and has a different type of work ethic because of his family background. Jeanty is a military baby, so nothing ever came easy when it came to his work ethic.

"It's everything," Jeanty said regarding his faith. "And that's what I've been rooted in, that's what's helped me get to where I'm at this point. And I'm just thankful for that relationship with the Man upstairs, because it's given me so many opportunities.

"It [Being in a military family] shaped me really well, talk about discipline and handling adversity, always dealing with change, having to do things on the fly, and I think that it's kind of a lot like football. There's always going to be things that don't go your way, you're always going to have to change something in the game, and it's really helped me grow into the man I am today."

Jeanty didn't get to where he is now by just having talent. I mean, the kid didn't even start playing running back full-time until his senior year of high school. Before that, he played in the slot. He stayed at a small school in Boise State, and let his work and play do the talking.

This kid is different than any other guy they could have drafted at No. 6, and the Raiders know that. And, he's good — Jeanty is one of the best college running backs of all time, and in the division they are in, against the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs, you need a good running back.
