Brock Bowers showed the world that he is still the best tight end in the league, and he did it by breaking a few records
The Las Vegas Raiders still have the best tight end in the league in Brock Bowers.
The Las Vegas Raiders have the best tight end in the league, even after Brock Bowers has missed several games due to injury and plays on one of the worst offenses in football. None of that matters because when he’s healthy, you just get him the football, and he does the rest.
On Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, even in the heartbreaking loss, Bowers broke some franchise records. Here is what the Raiders PR team tweeted out after his monster performance:
“TE Brock Bowers becomes the third TE in Raiders history and the first since 1983 (Todd Christensen) to record three receiving touchdowns in a single game.”
There’s not really anything the Jaguars could have done to stop Bowers, and even they know that.
Jaguars HC Liam Coen had high praise for Raiders TE Brock Bowers
“Man, look, he has a full route tree,” Coen said after the game. “So when you’re in 12 personnel, you’re really in 11, when you’re in 11, you’re really in 10. He can run option routes like Cooper Kupp. He can run the seam like Tony Gonzalez.
“He’s just multipurpose. I competed and coached against him at Georgia. There aren’t many players at that position who are as talented as he is. Knew coming off the bye, they wanted to feature him. It didn’t matter much; he was making plays all over the place. He’s so hard to bring down because he’s so strong and so grounded. He breaks tackles like nobody else.”
If you needed any evidence that Bowers is pretty much unstoppable, just show his one-handed touchdown catch on the day. The defense played by the Jaguars was pretty perfect – yet it didn’t matter because Bowers is just that good.
So, while the Raiders did lose and things do look bleak, just remember that they do have the best tight end in the league and one of the best young running backs in the league to build around. Now, that’s easier said than done, considering this franchise seems to be cursed; however, the Raiders have a good foundation.
Bowers just needs help, and when that help will get there, who knows? But when it does, he has the type of game that can literally win teams’ football games. He is that good, as we saw again on Sunday, now that he’s finally healthy.
