We all knew that the Las Vegas Raiders wanted to draft a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. We didn't know that they wouldn't take any of the major names we were hearing before the 2025 NFL Draft.
Most of the names we heard were guys like Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe, Will Howard, and even Quinn Ewers. The Raiders ended up taking two FCS quarterbacks in Montana State QB Tommy Mellott and North Dakota State QB Cam Miller. Of course, we expect Mellott to be converted to a wide receiver, and Miller to be a developmental QB, but they drafted two FCS QBs nonetheless.
They see something in Miller, something special. He's going to be the guy they develop, and maybe something happens, maybe something does. But, they brought him in for a reason — he has the tools to eventually be a quarterback in the NFL.
Well, that's why, but the actual main reason why has nothing to do with what you see on tape, even though that is good as well.
"I haven't had any interaction with Tom [Brady], but from every conversation that I've had with the GM [John Spytek], he has talked to me about how they want to bring in people that are winners, and who have been accustomed and used to winning games. And I think that that was really the x-factor in their choice to take me in the draft," Miller told reporters during his Zoom press conference.
The Raiders and their new regime want a certain kind of player in the building — players who have won before and won a lot. NDSU, where Miller played, has won 10 FCS National Championships, and Miller has won two of those, one this year and one in 2021.
This franchise has done a lot of losing over the last 20 years, and they need to get that stink, if you will, out of the building. So, they need to bring in guys that they don't have to teach how to win. And, they have done that with Miller, Mellott, Jeanty, and a few others as well. If you want to win the AFC West against teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, you have to know how to win. All they have known the last few decades is losing.

The Raiders are banking on his development.
