The Las Vegas Raiders have been waiting for the Detroit Lions to lose in the playoffs, respectfully. I mean, not to hash on a still fresh situation for Lions fans, but the sooner they lost, the sooner the Raiders could get Ben Johnson in the building in person to interview him.

Because they have not interviewed him in person before, just virtually, and no one gets hired for a head coaching gig without an in-person interview, well, almost no one. So Raiders fans, while they wanted Jayden Daniels in silver and black, and who could blame them, can thank him for sending Johnson home early, respectfully.

So, Ben Johnson will be in Las Vegas soon, and the Raiders will know almost right away if that's really their guy of the future, or not. And they think it is, so who knows what they need to see in person. But what we do know is that the Raiders have already met one requirement you have to hire a head coach.

Raiders can hire their head coach on Monday if they want

There are new rules in place for franchises making head coaching hires. The NFL has introduced a policy requiring teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coaching and other senior positions whenever there's an opening, to enhance diversity in the league's leadership roles. It's now known as the Rooney Rule.

The Raiders have met with former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, two minority candidates. So, they could hire their head coach Monday, if they wanted, according to The Athletic's Tashan Reed.

Teams in the NFL can begin interviewing Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn on Monday.

Only time will tell what happens.
