Cowboys are going to be the reason the Raiders have success on Monday Night Football, not the other way around
The Las Vegas Raiders are ready for the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been a dumpster fire this season, and there is a world where they don’t finish with another win this season. There is also a world where they only finish with five wins, one more than last season. Getting a win over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football would be good for the franchise, as they haven’t seen many of those lately.
This is a franchise that needs to learn how to win, and they simply don’t know how to do that. The Raiders have a ton of questions surrounding their team, luckily for them, so do the Cowboys. In fact, I asked A to Z Sports Dallas Cowboys expert Mauricio Rodriguez a few questions that Raiders fans may have about the Cowboys, a team Vegas doesn’t see often.
3 burning questions regarding Raiders vs. Cowboys
Q: The Cowboys’ defense has been the bad end of a lot of football jokes this year. Why is it that side of the ball is as bad as it is?
A: It’s been a combination of things, but mostly, it starts with personnel. The Cowboys bet they could turn around the careers of cornerback Kaiir Elam and linebacker Kenneth Murray. They let their money get mad and dealt away Micah Parsons. Meanwhile, they failed to acquire a true nose tackle. But it’s also been about Matt Eberflus failing to find ways to adapt his scheme to his players. The hope is that the arrivals of LB Logan Wilson, DT Quinnen Williams, combined with the return from injury of LB DeMarvion Overshown, rookie CB Shavon Revel Jr., and starting safeties Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker, make this a decent defense. We’ll see.
Q: Because of how bad their defense is, is this a game where you can see the Raiders being able to get very successful on offense even tho that unit has been pretty poor this season?
A: Absolutely. That will be the case until the Cowboys prove otherwise. This unit made Russell Wilson look like 2018 Patrick Mahomes one week before he was benched by Jaxson Dart. Bo Nix had his best game against Dallas. Jacoby Brissett secured the Cardinals’ starting job one week after playing the Cowboys’ defense. And every running back that faces them will stumble into massive running lanes. Until they prove otherwise, I would be scared of any and all defenses.
Q: What makes this offense so elite? From an outsider’s perspective, they seem to pass the ball at a high level, and Javonte Williams seems to be playing elite football at times.
A: It starts with Dak Prescott. He’s one of the most underrated players in the NFL and is in full control of the offense. He’s one of the best in the league when it comes to adjusting at the line of scrimmage, and he has a remarkable ability to get rid of the football just in time despite questionable pass protection at tackle (Maxx Crosby should have a big game). Then it follows with the stars at wide receiver in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, who is playing his best football yet. As for the run game, the offensive line is physical, and it’s been the emphasis of Brian Schottenheimer’s offense. They marry the run and pass very well, and they want to lean on running the ball and play action.
