Recently there has been some drama surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders and their star tight end Darren Waller.
Waller hasn't been to very many practices this offseason, and while we don't know the exact reason that is, because we haven't been told, we can assume it's because of the contract negotiations between him and the team.
This week we were made aware that Waller made a decision that could impact his future contract negotiations.
Waller had been with the Klutch Sports management group, who basically represent him in contract negotiations, for less than a year. He recently decided to leave the group.
Our best guess is that he wasn't happy with the job they were doing on the negotiations, so he left.
He now cannot sign an agent for five days as part of the NFLPA waiting period. So while we don't know yet, Waller could potentially represent himself.
There are some other big names in the NFL who are currently representing themselves, such as Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens and Roquan Smith with the Chicago Bears, and, as you can see, those negotiations aren't going quite their way.
So, with that we have to ask, will Waller find another agent after the five-day period, or will he represent himself?
Either way, this should not affect whether he will play this season or not. The Raiders should, and should want to get this deal done as soon as possible.
We know the talent that Waller is and the talent that he has. This year he could be a huge part of the offense as a ton of attention will be on Davante Adams. They need to lock that in for longer than what his current contract is, which says he has two years remaining. And, here is the best part. Waller wants to be in Las Vegas.
