The Las Vegas Raiders are implementing a ton of new things for the 2024 season. If they wanted to be any better than they were last season, some things were going to have to change. The first one was making Antonio Pierce the head coach rather than the interim head coach. That would give him the ability to get his own coaching staff in the building, which is the second most important thing.

Last year's coaching staff, even after the firing of Josh McDaniels and Mick Lombardi, was McDaniels. Even the guys who were promoted when the ones before them were fired – they were McDaniels' staff. So, the Raiders didn't bring back much of anyone. Instead, Pierce brought in offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, and Getsy brought in some guys to be under him.

With a new offensive coordinator means a new offensive system. Getsy is bringing the same system that the Chicago Bears had the last two years and the same system that the Green Bay Packers had before that, back when Davante Adams was there lighting it up with Aaron Rodgers.

So, Adams will be somewhat familiar with the system, whereas others on the offense may not. That means he may play a different role in this offense – a teacher.

"100 percent," Davante Adams said during mandatory minicamp. "I mean, naturally, when I got here, I was leading the men when I first was learning Josh's [McDaniels] offense. But as far as being able to get out there and tell somebody what to do, I didn't know what to do for the first however long. So, you got to kind of establish yourself on the field and get some credibility, I guess. I don't know if credibility is the right word because I think I had that coming here. But definitely now knowing it, it gives me definitely a little bit more of an edge to where I cannot just sit there and have my head in the book writing the whole time.

"Obviously, if I know something, and it's been something I've been doing for the last five or six years, I can kind of look over to Jakobi [Meyers] and look at his route. And when I’m watching tape now, we'll watch the practice when we get back in there and I'm looking at it and I'm not just looking at myself watching my route, I'm more looking at everybody else to figure out a way to help them get better and help their process a little bit more."

That doesn't mean that Adams' production will take a step back – if anything I think his production will be much better than it was the last two years. This is a system he is very familiar with and one that saw him claim that title as the best in the league. But, he will have to focus a bit more on the ones around him than he did before.

It made all the sense in the world to go get Getsy and make him the offensive coordinator. Now, maybe we can see Adams at his best in silver and black, and maybe we can see him making others around him better.
