They won't tell you this, but the Las Vegas Raiders should be thanking the New York Jets after their win over the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football. The Jets and Raiders were both 2-6, even after New York received Davante Adams in a trade from the Raiders.
Now, they are 3-6 and still out of the playoff picture—far from it, if we're being honest. But after a win over the Texans, the Jets actually helped the Raiders, more than you may realize, too.
While Raiders fans don't really want to see the Jets have any success, mainly because they don't want to see Adams have success, it's vital for the Raiders that the Jets succeed. In that trade, the Raiders received a third-round pick with some conditional terms attached to it.
If Davante Adams becomes an All-Pro or is on an AFC Championship game roster, that third-round pick will turn into a second-round pick. So, they have to root for him to do good if they want a better pick.
But also, they need to be thanking the Jets for winning on Thursday Night Football.
The Jets winning moved the Raiders down in the standings, which means they went from the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the No. 6 pick, getting even closer to being able to have their choice of player. And of course, as we all know, the Raiders desperately need a quarterback, and this class has a few that the Raiders could use.
Now the New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, and Carolina Panthers are all ahead, with a few of those already having their future QBs locked down.
This is going to be very interesting to see how it all plays out.
Las Vegas Raiders’ 2024 plan is actually working better than you may think
The Raiders may not be doing this intentionally, but it’s what needs to be done.
