The Las Vegas Raiders were very busy on Monday, agreeing to terms with players left and right. Then, with the Maxx Crosby news happening on Tuesday, there was a lot of attention focused on a million different places. It seems the Raiders flew under the radar when they were awarded two compensatory picks.

There are a ton of new NFL fans. So, many of you may not know what a compensatory pick is. Here is the official definition:

“NFL compensatory picks are additional draft selections (rounds 3-7) awarded to teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents (CFAs) than they sign in the previous year. A proprietary formula based on salary, playing time, and postseason honors determines these picks. A maximum of 32 picks are awarded, plus special picks for developing minority coaches/executives.” – NFL Operations

How the Raiders got their two compensatory picks

Last offseason, the Raiders lost edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson, linebacker Divine Deablo, cornerback Nate Hobbs, safety Tre’von Moehrig, and linebacker Robert Spillane. They gained safety Jeremy Chinn, linebacker Elandon Roberts, and cornerback Eric Stokes, whom they just re-signed.

The Raiders were awarded two compensatory picks. One in round four, which is set to be pick No. 134 overall, and one in round five, which is set to be pick No. 175 overall. The Raiders now have 10 draft picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, the updated total after the trade with the Baltimore Ravens fell through. Had it not, they would have 11 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, with the extra one being pick No. 14 overall, an extra first-rounder.\

Next offseason, there’s not a very good chance the Raiders get as good a compensatory pick as they did this offseason. The better deals former players get from other teams, the better pick you get. So far, only two Raiders players from this previous season have been signed: Lonnie Johnson to the Miami Dolphins on a small one-year deal and Dylan Parham to the New York Jets on a two-year, $20 million deal.
