Last season, the Las Vegas Raiders hired Pete Carroll, the league’s oldest head coach. Now, they are expected to hire a 38-year-old, making a complete 180.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Raiders consider Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak their top choice. After a second interview on Saturday, the team expects him to become their next head coach, though the hire can’t be finalized until after the Super Bowl, when Kubiak will coach against the New England Patriots. Kubiak also interviewed for the Arizona Cardinals job on Saturday, but is now expected to head to Las Vegas.

This will be the Raiders’ fifth head coach since 2021.

Klint Kubiak brings offensive stability the Raiders haven’t had in years

The last offensive-minded head coach the Raiders had was Josh McDaniels, the Patriots’ current offensive coordinator. However, during his tenure, the Raiders’ offense struggled. Since Jon Gruden’s departure, Vegas has continued to have difficulties on that side of the ball, further underscoring the need for change.

This year, Kubiak had one of the NFL’s best offenses in Seattle, and he’s expected to bring a system that helps players succeed. Before that can happen, he will need to ensure the right players are in place. Fortunately, Fernando Mendoza, the potential No. 1 overall pick, is considered a good fit for that system. With Mendoza likely being selected by the Raiders, LV wanted an offensive-minded head coach at the helm.

Not only is Kubiak bringing an offensive system that players like Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty can thrive in, but he’s also expected to provide stability at head coach. Given recent trends, there is hope the Raiders will commit to Kubiak for the long term, rather than make another quick coaching change.

While Kubiak will likely experience some growing pains as a first-time head coach, the team believes he is the right choice to lead the franchise’s turnaround.
