The Las Vegas Raiders are now set to begin putting together their coaching staff. Klint Kubiak is back in the building as the head coach after doing his Super Bowl parade with the Seattle Seahawks, and the team is getting to work ASAP.

And, they have already made one of the most important hires for Kubiak.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reports that the Raiders are hiring former Tennessee Titans interim head coach Mike McCoy as assistant head coach. McCoy, 53, previously served as the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach for 4 years. He brings experience to support Kubiak as he adjusts to his first head coaching role. This is the guy who’s really going to help Kubiak in some of his hardest decisions.

The Raiders still have many positions to fill on their staff

There are still so many positions on the staff that need to be hired. He still has to hire an offensive coordinator, a defensive coordinator, and all of the guys who fall under those coaches. Don’t worry, though, Kubiak has a list.

“Definitely have a list of candidates that we’re going through right now,” Kubiak told reporters this week. “And we’re going to be working hand in hand on coaches, on the roster, everything. That’s part of us being successful, is us working together.”

With Kubiak, it’s hard to see what kind of staff members he will be looking to get. It’s not like other coaches who have been in the league for a while, where we can kind of pencil in the type of coach that the head coach wants to hire. All we can really do is guess based on connections.

But Kubiak knows what he’s looking for, so that’s a great starting point.

“We’re trying to assemble a great team of teachers. We’ve got to get some really good teachers and coaches here, and get us all on the same page, and get our players going in the same direction. That communication is really important. I think if we can put together a great staff here and get our players up to date on these playbooks and the expectations we have of them, then the results will speak for themselves.”

The Raiders have to get this staff right. Over the last few years, not only did they get the HC wrong, but they also got the guys around the HC wrong, too. Kubiak seems to be on the right track.
