Klint Kubiak made sure to address the elephant in the room with the Raiders long before he even started his press conference
The Raiders got their guy, now they need to keep Crosby.
The Las Vegas Raiders introduced their new head coach, Klint Kubiak, on Tuesday. He met several new players, including Brock Bowers and Ashton Jenaty, but notably, Maxx Crosby was absent from the introductory press conference.
Now, that doesn’t mean Kubiak hasn’t met Crosby. In fact, Kubiak made sure that was the first thing he did before he ever set foot on the podium to tell his life story and his goals for the Silver and Black.
Klint Kubiak has already talked to Maxx Crosby
“I got to drink a cup of coffee with Maxx [Crosby] this morning,” Kubiak told reporters. “Loved talking ball with him, and I look forward to continuing those conversations. He was the first one here this morning working out, so that fired me up.”
There have been rumblings the last few weeks about Crosby and his future with the Raiders. Of course, a few offseasons ago, he requested a trade if Antonio Pierce wasn’t going to be hired. And last year, Pete Carroll and the Raiders shut him down at the end of the season. During Super Bowl week, FOX insider Jay Glazer said Crosby wants out. Crosby then went on live television at the Raiders’ headquarters wearing all Raiders gear and said he didn’t know where any of those rumors were coming from.
Of course, those rumors have only gotten even bigger. Crosby is not showing up to the press conference as he did for Pierce, and Carroll says something. He also hasn’t acknowledged the hire on social media, as he had in the past, but he did tweet about James Harden in the NBA. So, it’s nothing—there’s something there.
Regardless, Kubiak made it known he wants Crosby.
“Yeah, we want him to be a part of our success going forward,” Kubiak said. “There’s no doubt about that. He’s one of the best players in the NFL, so that’s a no-brainer to get to work with Maxx [Crosby] and see him continue to have success with this organization.”
How things fan out over the next few months will be very important. However, it’s crucial that Kubiak had already talked to Crosby before even doing his press conference.
