ESPN leaked the Las Vegas Raiders’ NFLPA report card, which ranked them sixth overall. Now, that is mainly due to their facilities, ownership, and other important factors. Coaching certainly isn’t the reason they have a grade that good.

The Raiders had an issue with OC Chip Kelly last season, and the 2025 report card confirms that

During the season, Kelly was fired. The Raiders’ offense was terrible, and quarterback Geno Smith constantly looked lost, and the run game was as poor as could be. Now, not all of that is on the coaches, as they didn’t have a great group of players either. However, in this case, most of it is the coaching.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on The Rich Eisen Show earlier in the offseason that Kelly sometimes botched his own play calls and, on several occasions, “called plays that weren’t in the game plan.”

“That’s a rarity in the NFL. Kelly, a 62-year-old who has run his own offense countless times, was also miffed at how heavy-handed Carroll was with what he wanted to run and how he wanted it run. Sources say Kelly expressed frustration about the setup.”

Kelly, the former offensive coordinator who was let go after the atrocious start to the season, having an F grade, speaks volumes about what the Raiders had going on offense. That was the league’s worst offensive unit, and their coach, who received an F grade, says he just wasn’t doing a good job. We heard other things about the practices just being bad on that side of the ball, too, which also says something because he was in charge of that aspect of it all as well.

Once again, it seems this franchise is making all the right decisions, except for those involving coaching. If they can get that right this go around, start winning football games, and keep all of these other grades near the top, we are talking about maybe one of the best run franchises in the NFL.

The head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and special teams coordinator all scored lower than a B-, whereas the strength and conditioning coaches, AJ Neibel and Duece Gruden, received excellent grades. Besides coaching, the only other area needing improvement is team travel, which is rated a B—though it’s still strong. However, coaching may be the biggest thing, and so is winning. In this situation, the two are definitely correlated.

It’s still early, and no games have been played yet, but this time, with Klint Kubiak and his staff, it feels different.
