Fernando Mendoza is already answering questions about the Las Vegas Raiders well, and he’s not even their quarterback yet. When the 2026 NFL Draft kicks off in April, the national perception is that he will be the first name called when LV starts the draft on the clock.

This means the Raiders may finally have their franchise quarterback. This also means Mendoza is about to get asked a lot of questions like the one he was just asked on national television. That comes with being a QB in the NFL, and with being the QB of the Silver and Black. Mendoza was asked a question by a Raiders fan that really put him in a tough spot, with the interviewer “apologizing” that Mendoza would be drafted by the Raiders because they’ve been a bad team the last few years.

“The Raiders have a great culture, great coaching staff, great ownership group. It’s all around. Those (Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty) are legit guys. I’d be happy to end up anywhere,” Mendoza responded on The Today Show.

It’s obvious Mendoza is already mature enough to answer some tough and awkward questions. That’s exactly what the Raiders need, too, because it shows that he’s likely ready for the pressure that comes with being a No. 1 overall pick/franchise quarterback.

Raiders need someone ready for the pressure, on and off the field

Mendoza seems mentally ready. He rarely gets rattled. He stays locked in and focused on what matters—he even said he doesn’t have time for a girlfriend.

Mendoza is ready on the field, too. Against the Miami Hurricanes, he made the right plays, willing his team to a win. Notably, his fourth-down touchdown run in the fourth quarter demonstrated he’s ready for the spotlight. Mendoza can make nearly any throw and remains strong in the pocket, even when under pressure.

Vegas is ready to escape its cycle of mediocrity. Mendoza may not change that immediately, but he could be the one to return them to the postseason.
