The Las Vegas Raiders traded away Maxx Crosby this past weekend to the Baltimore Ravens. Well, at least that’s what everyone thought happened. On Tuesday, the Raiders announced that the Ravens backed out of the trade.

Raiders’ trade with the Ravens and Maxx Crosby just got weird

According to several reports, the Raiders had been fielding trade offers for some time and reportedly agreed to send Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens were set to give up two first-round picks—one in 2027 and the No. 14 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. This would have allowed the Raiders to embark on a serious rebuild, possibly bringing in two blue-chip players for the future and freeing up salary for free agency. However, with the Ravens backing out, this scenario did not materialize.

Other reports say Crosby did not pass his physical in Baltimore on Thursday.

When the Combine was in Indianapolis last week, general manager John Spytek was asked a million times about Crosby. Of course, he did his best version of coach-speak, but in a general manager’s style. However, he mentioned several times, of course, that Crosby would be wearing silver and black in 2026.

“Maxx [Crosby] is an elite player, and I’ve been very upfront from the start when I got here that we’re in the business of having really good players on the team, and we need a lot more of them,” Spytek told reporters at the Combine. “And it’s hard to build a great team without elite players…Maxx [Crosby] and I have a great relationship. He’s in the building every day, getting healthy right now. We talk on the phone. We text. So, I have a great relationship with Maxx… Maxx [Crosby] and I have had great conversations. I’m comfortable there. Yeah.”

Now that Crosby is back with the Raiders, they’ll have some decisions to make about his future and their next steps.

The Raiders were looking forward to getting that extra first-round pick, and it had them in a very good position this offseason alone, let alone next offseason. Now, things get a bit difficult because what happens from here? Do they still find a place to send Crosby, or do they stick with him and ride into the season with an elite player on the defensive side of the ball? There are so many questions now, and the entire NFL is looking at the Raiders.
