On Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders lost to the Chicago Bears in a way that left them with no other option but to lose. That puts them at 1-3 on the year, a place no one wants to be, especially Maxx Crosby. After the game, he let it all out.

“We’re really close; it came down to the last play. We need to find a way not to make it easier on ourselves. It freaking hurts, it sucks. I hate losing,” Crosby said after the game.

Raiders fans, more than maybe any other fan base, are tired of hearing how close they are.

Raiders don’t appear to be close

Whether it was Jack Del Rio, Jon Gruden, Josh McDaniels, or Antonio Pierce, all said that the team was close when in reality, they were not. The fans are tired of hearing that, and I’m sure Crosby and the coaches are tired of saying it.

In this instance, they were close to winning, but in all fairness, this is a team that they should have beaten by two scores at home. The Chicago Bears are not a good football team, just like the Raiders. However, the story we were all sold on the Raiders coming into the season is that this is a team that can compete for a playoff spot.

They are not close to that. They are close to beating the bottom of the barrel and mediocre teams in the league. This offense can’t consistently run the ball, as through four games, this was the first good one on the ground. The offensive line can’t pass block or run block. The passing game isn’t great because players aren’t getting open, and Geno Smith is throwing the ball to the other team.

And the defense, well, they have its moments. It will look incredibly good on one drive, and then the next drive will make a dumb play that defenses shouldn’t be making. But, honestly, this loss is not on the defense, because it played well considering how many bad situations it was put in by the offense.

To make matters worse, two of the Raiders’ next three games are against the Indianapolis Colts, who look to be a great team in 2025, and then the Kansas City Chiefs, who blew out the Baltimore Ravens. It could only get worse, or it could get better. It’s time to see how close they really are.
