Las Vegas Raiders Monday Night Football game vs. the Dallas Cowboys just got so much harder after terrible injury news
The Raiders will be without Jackson Powers-Johnson vs. the Dallas Cowboys and at least three games after that.
The Las Vegas Raiders will have a hard time doing anything on offense in the next four games or so. That includes against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, even though their defense is pretty bad. Somehow, that bad defense will find a way to wreck the game for Vegas.
The Raiders’ offense is already bad when everyone is healthy. Granted, when tight end Brock Bowers and the offensive line are healthy, it’s much, much better. However, the offense is bad top to bottom.
Now, the Raiders will be without their best offensive lineman in Jackson Powers-Johnson. He sustained an ankle injury against the Denver Broncos on “Thursday Night Football.” After the game, head coach Pete Carroll told everyone it was not good. Now, Powers-Johnson is headed straight for Injured Reserve, which means he can’t come back for at least four weeks.
The real reason why the offense will get worse has nothing to do with JPJ’s absence
As the headline suggests, JPJ’s departure isn’t the reason the offense is about to get significantly worse. The offense is headed towards terrible because this means that Carroll is about to play Alex Cappa, moving forward, who is maybe the worst offensive lineman in football.
Cappa was the worst offensive lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals last year, leading the team in blown blocks, pressures allowed, and sacks allowed. Inserting him into the offensive line is a recipe for disaster.
However, there is something the Raiders could do to combat that. They have a rookie on their team, Caleb Rogers, whom they drafted to play offensive guard. Sure, he may not be as good as JPJ, or even as good as Cappa right away. However, now is the time to play these rookies, so you can see what you have in these young guys, while you’re 2-7 and you have nothing left to lose.
However, we know how stubborn Carroll is when it comes to his offensive line; otherwise, we wouldn’t be discussing JPJ even playing guard in the first place, as his natural position is center. Monday against the Cowboys, we could see Rogers play, or we will see the exact same things we saw when JPJ was out with a concussion.
