The Las Vegas Raiders have gotten enough bad news this season, and now a player on the defense is getting his share of it right before he goes to play a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Jakorian Bennett, the Las Vegas Raiders sophomore cornerback, who didn't have quite the rookie season he had maybe hoped he would have, has been lighting it up. He's been one of the most productive corners in the game, and it seems like he is always batting down some huge third-down pass.
He is the opposite of Jack Jones, who has become somewhat of a polarizing guy in Las Vegas with his actions both on and off the field, good and bad, but Bennett is just as good, if not better. He's had a season that has woke people up, as even DeAndre Hopkins of the Kansas City Chiefs shared some praise for him.
This week, he was fined a lot of money for something he did against the Chiefs last week, just a day before he plays the Bengals. That's not the best news to hear as you're prepping for this week, in a game that, if the Raiders lose, they will be 2-7 on the year.
According to the NFL's Gameday Operations site, Bennett had an unnecessary roughness hip-drop tackle in the second quarter at the 8:59 minute mark that cost him $6,227.
The young Raiders defensive back is only in his second season, and being that he was a day-three pick in last year's draft, he doesn't have as much money to work with on his contract as the average fan may think. That's a large chunk of change coming out of his pocket for something that is very controversial in today's NFL the hip-drop tackle.
Maybe Bennett will use this as fire this Sunday. After his matchup with the Bengals, Bennett and the Raiders will get a bye week and then play the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, Chiefs again, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to start a tough stretch of games.
