Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders currently sit in a contract stalemate. The Raiders placed the franchise tag on Jacobs earlier this offseason after declining his fifth-year option last year.

If Jacobs were to sign and play under the franchise tag, he would make $10.1 million this season and become a free agent following its conclusion. However, Jacobs has made it clear that his preference is to sign a long-term extension instead.

Jacobs is coming off a spectacular season, leading the league in rushing yards (1,653) and total scrimmage yards (2,053). He was named a first-team All-Pro, and it seems reasonable that he wants long-term security.

NFL reporter Tom Pelissero recently joined the Rich Eisen Show to discuss Jacobs' situation. He stated that Jacobs could miss training camp and even some of the regular season if no deal is reached.

This reinforces Jacobs' comments from earlier this offseason when he said: "If you want me to come back and be the hero, you have to pay me like a hero."

Jacobs has stayed away from the team all offseason and missed the mandatory minicamp earlier this month. He has until July 17th to agree on a deal, otherwise, a holdout may be coming. If the two sides don't agree to a deal by Week 10, then Jacobs will be inactive for the entire season.

Last week Jacobs sent a cryptic tweet indicating things may not be going well:

Jacobs is crucial to the success of this roster, and a holdout could be detrimental to the Raiders' chances this season.
