Things have definitely ganged in Las Vegas with the Raiders since the firing of Josh McDaniels. It's been a much better two weeks than the past year and a half, which certainly says something about what was happening before. Now, Antonio Pierce has changed things around.
While Pierce has only been at the helm for two weeks, it's clear he has the locker room on his side. He has changed the culture and the vibes, even if this team doesn't keep winning. In fact, he has done so much that there is a huge chance that Pierce has won over the job for 2024.
There is also a chance he still has much to prove before getting the job. But, from everything we have heard regarding the position, he is a candidate. And NFL insider Jordan Schultz cleared that up even more. Here is what he said on his Bleacher Report Live Session regarding the matter:
There's no question that Antonio Pierce is being evaluated potentially as the full-time coach for the Raiders. This is not just some interim experiment where we're going to absolutely have to find a new head coach after the season. If Pierce continues to win, if he continues to develop the respect of the locker room that he already has, But now, so as the interim head coach, make no mistake, he is absolutely potentially coaching for the opportunity to become the full-time head coach. That's how well respected he is by the owner, Mark Davis. That's how well respected he is by the organization, by champ Kelly, the interim GM. So keep an eye on Antonio Pierce, who, to me, regardless of what happens with the Raiders, is going to become a hot name, a candidate for a head coaching position. And I've asked Justin Tuck about this, who was obviously his longtime teammate in New York, where they won two Super Bowls together. And he's really echoed that sentiment that Antonio Pierce was one of the best teammates he's ever had. And we're seeing that just already in a couple of weeks with the Raiders, and that's a beautiful thing if you're a fan of the Silver and Black.
Antonio Pierce would be the perfect guy for the job in terms of just being a Raider. However, one of the questions I'm sure we will find out is whether we will he be able to put a good staff around him with guys that want to coach for him. Because at the end of the day, he can't call the offense, and he may not want to call the defense for all we know.
You still need to have the right guys around you. We will see, but as of right now, things are looking good for Antonio Pierce.
Antonio Pierce is already making Raiders’ history
