The Las Vegas Raiders are looking like one of the worst teams in football. They were absolutely slaughtered by the Kansas City Chiefs, not scoring a single point and giving up 31, after just barely beating the Tennessee Titans. This week, they can’t lose, because they don’t play anyone. However, they still have a ton of work to do.

Raiders head coach Pete Carroll already knows what the team needs to work on. He knows this is a bad football team and isn’t naive to what a bye week means for them. Carroll gave a lengthy answer that shows just how important this week will be.

Pete Carroll talks about the importance of the bye week for the Raiders

“Well, the first thing is it gives us a chance to have two weeks to get three or four guys back out there, get some starters back out there. It should help. Brock [Bowers] should be ready to go; Jakobi [Meyers], I think he worked out in pregame, was close; he should be ready to go. Gives us a chance to get Maxx [Crosby]. Maxx was not at full speed yesterday. He tried, did everything he could, and we had to get him out of there, but he’ll be better. So, that’s a real boost.

“I mean, those are three guys who are legitimate leaders and players on this football team that we need to get back out there. Hopefully, that will take place. A big self-scouting opportunity for us, a big chance to ensure that we understand what our opponents are seeing, and to tweak, adjust, and be creative with how we do that. That’s what this time is always for. A chance to take a look at some young guys, to give them a better shot, and a couple of days that we practice with them, just a better chance to show us where they fit or how far they’ve come, and can they help us? So, it’s all pretty much the normal stuff, but that’s what we’re focusing on.”

Las Vegas has dealt with a ton of injuries on both sides of the ball. Not that they would have made much of a difference, but last week they were without their two best defensive linemen, if not their two best defenders, in Maxx Crosby and Adam Butler. Brock Bowers, basically the entire focal point of their passing game, has been injured, too. And we can’t forget about left tackle Kolton Miller, who’s on Injured Reserve right now.

The bye week will also give the Raiders time to figure out what kind of team they want to be from here on out. The original identity they had in mind for their team is obviously not the kind of team they are. So, what do they want to be going forward?

Las Vegas needed this bye week badly.
