Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith has a come-to-Jesus meeting regarding what happened in Week 4 against the Bears
Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith knows he has to be better.
This offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders opted to trade for former Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith rather than draft a rookie QB in the 2025 NFL Draft.
It’s early in the season, but Smith has been one of the worst QBs in the league, and he certainly showed that against the Chicago Bears in a Week 4 loss.
“I gotta fight to get this stuff right,” Smith said at the podium after the loss. “I’m putting us in tough situations over and over again. If you look at the difference in the game, it’s the turnovers. Simply put, I need to get better. I owe it to my teammates to play better…I let those guys down…I gotta be a lot better, and I am a lot better. The guy that I’m supposed to be hasn’t shown up yet.”
Raiders’ offense has struggled, with Smith being part of the reason why
On Sunday alone, Smith had three interceptions, and some of them were pretty bad throws, giving it right to a Bears defense that frankly isn’t very good. Smith has seven interceptions through four games, with five touchdowns to show for it. That’s not good, and it’s nearly impossible to win games when you give the ball away three times in one game.
Smith has done that twice, now.
The Raiders planned on coming into this season with the expectations of being a winning team, and that is just far from the reality of what this team is, and part of it is because of Smith and the decision-making he has had. Sure, every now and then, he will make a pretty insane throw that shows just how talented he is, but the bonehead plays he is making are just holding the team and himself back massively.
Something has to change, and luckily for the Raiders, Smith is very aware of what’s going on
