The Las Vegas Raiders very obviously need a quarterback change if they ever want to compete for a Super Bowl. They are very close to being a playoff team, but the majority of the work it will take to get there will be a QB upgrade, and that will likely have to happen by way of the Raiders trading up in the draft.

Yes, the Raiders may be able to get guys like Michael Penix, Bo Nix, and Spenser Rattler, but those guys are not the franchise-changing QBs that the top three guys are. And those top three guys likely won't be there at pick No. 13 when the Raiders pick.

Nine of the picks ahead of the Raiders could all go with a quarterback. That's the thing about the draft. However, one team that was considered to go after a wide receiver like Marvin Harrison or Malik Nabors, or offensive line, well, it appears that they will be going after a quarterback as well, which just throws a wrench in the Raiders' plans.

According to Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian of MassLive, the New England Patriots are expected to go after a quarterback with their first pick at No. 3.

Now, if the Raiders want to get Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams, or Drake Maye, they will either have to trade up with the Patriots, which will cost a ton. Or they will have to trade up behind those guys and hope the Chicago Bears keep their pick and don't draft a quarterback, which is unlikely. Of course, they could also trade with the Bears, but getting No. 1 overall will cost far more than No. 3.

There is a way the Raiders could do it, but when the Patriots were seen as a team that would go wide receiver, it was way more realistic that they would trade their pick away. Now, the Raiders are going to have to make a strong case for a trade to one of the top teams in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Raiders will still be uber-aggressive in getting a quarterback.
