The Las Vegas Raiders have a loaded schedule in 2023. For starters, they play in the AFC, and their division, the AFC West, is one of the toughest in the league. Every game is close between the four teams, just like Sunday was against the Denver Broncos.
However, some devastating news that shocked the football world on Monday night only greatly helped the Raiders.
If you were watching Monday Night Football, or even if you weren't, you probably still heard the news; the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets were in a rock fight till a punt return ended the game in overtime.
However, the fourth snap of the game for the New York Jets offense saw their new superstar quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, go down with a leg injury. That injury was reported Tuesday as an achilles, which means that Rodgers is out for the rest of the year and could end up retiring for all we know.
While the news is terrible, and you never want anything like this to happen to any player, this does help the Raiders, as unfortunate as it is.
The Raiders are in the tougher conference by far. The AFC is much deeper than the NFC, and that's how it was before Rodges decided to join the Jets by way of trade. The Jets, once they got Rodgers, became a team that was instantly considered a title contender, on paper, anyway.
They have the defense, and their offense was pedestrian before Rodgers, with Wilson at quarterback. Of course, they added other offensive pieces, too; however, if Wilson is still the quarterback and playing badly as the quarterback, none of that really matters.
The Raiders are slated to play the Jets this year in Week 10 for a Sunday Night Football game. Playing the Jets without Rodgers will surely help them in that matchup. And the Raiders could be in contention to make the playoffs by that time.
They have sole possession of first place in the AFC West after a rough game, but a win nonetheless.
With how deep it is, the AFC could have seen the Jets, along with two other teams from the AFC East, make the playoffs with Rodgers at the helm. That would take away the possibility the Raiders have. I'm not saying Wilson can't take the Jets to the postseason, but it certainly isn't as likely as it was with Rodgers.
Film proves that Raiders’ offensive line dominated Broncos in win
The Las Vegas Raiders got it done in crunch time against the Denver Broncos in Week 4. It was a must-win game, and their top players knew it. Running back Josh Jacobs closed the game with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. The offensive line for the Raiders overwhelmed Denver. That made life a […]
