Sure, the Las Vegas Raiders offensive line just played really badly, and their season isn't going well, but they may have gotten an offseason steal on their offensive line based on some of the advanced stats we are seeing.
Last week, the Raiders allowed Aidan O'Connell to be sacked seven times, which is really bad, and six of those came to Khalil Mack, as he almost broke the single-game record for sacks. It was clear he was out for revenge.
There have been some issues overall in the run game of the offensive line, which is why Josh Jacobs has struggled to get anything going at all. We saw something similar last season with Jacobs and the offensive line.
However, Greg Van Roten, who overtook Alex Bars for the starting position during training camp, has been stellar in the passing game. Some advanced stats reveal how great he has been and that signing him this offseason was a steal, anyway.
According to Pro Football Focus, GVR, as we call him, in 102 pass-blocking snaps, has allowed just one pressure and no quarterback hits. He signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, which is a steal when you factor in what he is doing in the passing game.
However, he still needs to work on his effort in the run game, as he isn't the only one; the entire offensive line has been poor there. Still, the Raiders made the right decision to bring him in and start him over Bars.
