Las Vegas Raiders Alex Bars

Like every other team, the Las Vegas Raiders must have their 53-man roster in place by August 29 at 4 p.m. EST. That means that some really good players will get cut, as the Raiders have a roster full of talent, just not enough spots.

Last year, these decisions were still tough on the Raiders, as they always are, but nowhere near as tough as in 2023. Dave Ziegler and the company did a great job of putting this roster together, and soon, we will see what the actual roster will be heading into a very important season.

But there is one thing that could happen that we still need to figure out. If we are making crazy predictions, well, there is a Raiders starter who could miss out on the Raiders 53-man roster in 2023.

Raiders' Alex Bars could miss out on the 53-man roster

Bars could start the season as the starter, just like he did last year for the Raiders in 14 games. However, the way things are going, someone behind him may take his spot, forcing Bars off the 53-man roster.

In 2022, Bars allowed five sacks and tallied three penalties. Those numbers may seem okay, but considering his 38 pressures allowed, it makes sense. His Pro Football Focus run block grade was 39.6, and his pass blocking grade was 55.4.

There is definitely room for the Raiders to improve at the right guard position. In fact, that improvement could be on the roster already. While my 53-man roster prediction has Bars making the roster, he is definitely trending in the wrong direction.

Behind him on the roster are Greg Van Roten, Netane Muti, and undrafted free agent rookie McClendon Curtis, who all have had stellar camps. Bars time could be up.

I'm not the only one who has this thought either, as Vic Tafur from The Athletic, who covers the Raiders on-site, thinks something similar.

We predicted that Alex Bars wouldn’t start 14 games again for the Raiders this season, but we didn’t think he was in danger of not making the roster. Especially because he can be an emergency center. But here we are. Greg Van Roten seems to have wrestled away Bars’ starting right guard spot, and Netane Muti is pushing him pretty hard for the backup spot

Now, we will just have to wait until 4 p.m. EST on August 29 to see what direction the Raiders go.
