Jimmy Garoppolo has been the talk of the tow in Raider Nation, as Las Vegas took a flyer on a guy who has an injury history, was injured at the time, and frankly, is now overpaid a bit. But hey, they believe he can be the guy they need to help them take that next step, and they think Derek Carr, who is a better quarterback, is not that guy.

The Raiders must know something we don't, though. I mean, sure, he knows the offensive system pretty well, considering it's the system he was drafted into in New England. He has a relationship with Josh McDaniels, also.

But it seems there is one other thing we keep hearing about Garoppolo from his teammates.

"Man, he's cool, calm, and collected man," center Andre James told the media on Thursday. "And you want to be with a guy like that, especially at the quarterback position. So having him in the huddle leading us, you know, we didn't expect anything else."

I guess the reason we wouldn't have thought about Garoppolo being cool, calm, and collected is that his team did choke a fourth-quarter lead in the Super Bowl in 2019 against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, this isn't the first time we are hearing about Garoppolo's mental talent.

"Jimmy [Garoppolo] is cool. He's a great leader. When I say cool, like cool, calm, collected, always under control," backup quarterback Brian Hoyer said. "I think I've always said like, the greatest trait for a quarterback is just to stay even keel. You don't get too high. You don't get too low. I think he's the definition of that. He's played a lot of great football, and I think the guys respect him, and that's a huge part of playing quarterback."

Maybe Raider Nation needs to give Garoppolo a chance. A lot of the fans, fans who are still stuck on Carr, hate the signings and won't give him a chance. However, based on the joint practice Garoppolo just had against his former team, he is starting the offseason well.

He has had some bad practices before, but at the same time, this is his first football action since Week 12 last season. Give the guy a chance.
