2023 hasn't been all that kind to the Las Vegas Raiders. They have been through a ton this season, yet, somehow, are in play to make a push for the playoffs. They need to win their last two games and get some help from a few teams in order to do so.
It sounds like a lot, but it is definitely doable. You have to think that if the Raiders do make the playoffs, interim head coach Antonio Pierce may have a better chance at getting the job in 2024. However, we thought similar things about Rich Bisaccia, too.
Pierce has done things already that Raiders fans believe should get him the job. He beat the Los Angeles Chargers 63-21, scoring the most points in franchise history. Then, last week, he beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium. If he makes the playoffs at 9-8, he should be a top candidate for the job. If he makes the playoffs and wins a playoff game, he should be guaranteed the job.
But, ultimately, Pierce knows his worth with the Raiders. He knows where his resume can be found.
"My resume is on the grass…hopefully Mark Davis sees improvement and growth in our team; he sees the style of play he wants from the Raiders," Pierce said earlier this week.
The Raiders have since re-adopted the Raider mentality and the Raider way. They have that grit and play nasty, just like we have all known them to be back in the day. They got rid of the old Patriots way Josh McDaniels tried to install.
What Pierce has done is on the grass. He's right; the team is playing better, and that's really all that matters. They are headed in the right direction. And, Pierce has already made Raiders' history.
