After some recent news, the Las Vegas Raiders can officially rule out not bringing back one of their special teams studs from last season.
DeAndre Carter was signed as a free agent last season and was formerly with Tom Telesco with the Los Angeles Chargers, so, there was reason to believe that maybe Carter would be back in 2024 with the Raiders, even this late into the offseason.
But, after the Raiders continued to sign wide receivers like Michael Gallup and Jalen Guyton, it became more apparent that likely wouldn't happen. Now, it definitely won't happen.
According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, the former Raiders wide receiver and return specialist is signing with the Chicago Bears to help give depth in the wide receiver room for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams but to also compete on special teams.
The signing of Gallup and Guyton wasn't the real nail in the coffin that Carter would not be back. Carter was already not playing much as a wide receiver. The nail in the coffin was when the Raiders re-signed Ameer Abdullah and drafted Dylan Laube to play special teams.
So, while some fans do really like Carter and may be upset he isn't returning – the Raiders don't actually need him. But, you wish him well in Chicago.
