Former Hall of Fame Raider implores team to secure running back Josh Jacobs long term
Charles Woodson advises the Raiders to give running back Josh Jacobs a long-term contract.
It is no secret that the Las Vegas Raiders want Josh Jacobs to be part of their future. And Jacobs also agreed that he wants to be a Raiders long-term.
Earlier in the offseason the Raiders franchise tagged Jacobs, but he has yet to sign the tender, meaning he can’t participate in any offseason activities. But now that the draft is over, Jacobs and the Raiders can focus on figuring out an amicable solution as to what a lengthy contract for the running back may look like.
Despite the unknown, one thing is clear: the Las Vegas Raiders can't afford to lose Jacobs. And that’s a sentiment that Hall of Fame defensive back Charles Woodson agrees on. He believes the Raiders need to figure out how to keep the All-Pro running back.
“We gotta have Josh Jacobs,” Woodson said on the April 29 episode of the “BLACK OUT Podcast.” “The year they drafted him, I remember tweeting, ‘I like this kid.’ He has that thing about him with that football in his hands.”
Not many things went right for the Raiders last season. Jacobs was the one bright spot. He led the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards and was named First-Team All-Pro. And the 2022 season wasn't an aberration. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in three of his four seasons.
The Raiders have until July 15 to come to an agreement with Jacobs. If nothing is reached by then, it could get extremely ugly. No one knows if Jacobs will hold out, but either way, the Raiders need to make sure they bring back the 25-year-old star.
